It is with shock, sadness and a deep sense of loss that I learned of the death in a terrorist attack in Mogadishu yesterday of Yusuf Mohamed Ismail Bari Bari, Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva.
Since he took up his post in 2008, Ambassador Bari’s active involvement in multilateral cooperation, his steadfast commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights and his affability had earned him the respect of all his peers and colleagues.
On behalf of the United Nations community in Geneva, I would like to express to Ambassador Bari’s family and friends, as well as the people of Somalia, my most sincere condolences.
